Hardback. The murder in the Harvard Medical School of Dr. George Parkman, a prominent Bostonian and Harvard alumnus, by Professor John W. Webster was, in the words of Edmund Pearson "America's classic murder." Webster was condemned to hang. Before his execution he admitted killing Parkman, but claimed that it was unpremeditated. He said he struck his creditor down with a heavy root lying nearby when he was provoked by the doctor's taunts and threats to have him fired. Illus. in text + Appendix. 314pp. 8vo. h/back. This edition contains, in an Appendix, the verdict of the Coroner's Jury, the deposition of Dr. Martin Gay, and other 'valuable and interesting papers, not contained in any other edition.' Lacks ffep, fr. hinge just beginning to show, lightly browned pp., half-leather, marbled boards, showing general shelf-wear. Vg. in protective film.
