Paper Chapbook. ...who was Executed in the City of York, on Wednesday, 15th Dec. 1843 for the Cruel Murders of his Wife and Four Children and afterwards hung his aged Mother on a Tree in the Garden. With the Dumfries Tragedy. A really nice copy of a very scarce Chapbook of 8pp. The original fr. cover shows a woodcut of a gallows and also mentions the Dumfries Tragedy, but this binding only covers the Thompson case and gives an account of the crimes in rhyming couplets. Thompson and his wife had come from wealthy families, but he began living with a 'harlot' and was reduced to poverty. He then killed his family and hanged his mother in the garden. 8pp. Chapbook 6" x 4". Sl. creased (see images) o/w Vg+. Rare.
