Softcover. The province of Saskatchewan came into being on September 1, 1905. Up to that time, law enforcement in the area had been handled by the Royal North West Mounted Police and since the baby government did not have much in the way of revenue, it was happy to maintain this arrangement. Nevertheless, provision for a provincial police force in Saskatchewan was made early as the first meeting of the Legislative Assembly in 1906. It passed the Constables Act of 1906 which allowed for the appointment of a Chief of Police and such subordinate personnel as might be required. It also provided that a Justice of the Peace could swear in special constables when necessary. Illus. 94pp. card covers. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. F. with no creasing to covers.
