Hardback. The author was indicted for first degree murder on September 18, 1918; he had shot his wife in the head. At the time of the killing, he had been the city editor of the Mew York 'Evening World'. He was 60yrs. of age and had been married for 39yrs. The tragic and unusual case of Charles E. Chapin, who at time of publication, was serving life imprisonment in Sing Sing, was well remembered by newspaper readers. Prior to the killing, he had been aware of the fact that he was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. He constantly fought against it, but the pains in his head grew more acute; he realised that his total collapse was iminent. He dreaded the thought of a sanitarium - he would rather die. As a devoted husband, he couldn't bear the thought of leaving his wife to face the world alone, so resolved to take her with him - he killed her. He then went to Prospect Park with a revolver in his pocket, intending to end his life, but when he saw a newspaper headline, "Charles Chapin Wanted For Murder" he went to the nearest police station and gave himself up. The tragedy which terminated the career of the author of this book. 334pp. 8vo. h/back. From the library of true-crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. Lightly browned edges o/w Vg+
