Hardback. PRESENTATION COPY. A long overdue, if somewhat uncritical, examination of the career of the great Jack Petersen. The author describes the book as “a true labour of love written essentially as a boxing story”. Jack Petersen was one of Britain's most popular heavyweight boxing champions and one of the most respected men in the history of Welsh sport. Eye problems sadly brought Jack's boxing career to a premature end but he moved on to become a successful journalist, businessman and Army officer. Jack never lost touch with boxing and in 1986 was elected President of the British Boxing Board of Control. Meticulously researched and told with insight and affection, the book is compelling reading and contains vivid descriptions of his fights, particularly those with German heavyweight Walter Neusel. Illus., Bibliog. and Appendix. 229pp. 8vo. h/back. From the library of the legendary Scotland Yard detective, the late Leonard 'Nipper' Read, who was Chair then President of the British Boxing Board of Control. PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR to 'Nipper' Read. F. in F. dw.
