Paperback. In this book the 3 authors have presented a plea for the abolition of the death penalty from the point of view of their respective professions, and from their moral commitment as Catholics. The first essay is by a priest whose object is to present a theological account of the theory of punishment, and the place of the death penalty within such a theory. The second, written by a sociologist, is concerned with its social effects, particularly in terms of criminal statistics. A psychologist has written the third, and he is concerned with the effects of capital punishment on the prisoner, the prison communities etc. Although written out of a common concern and with some shared assumptions, each essay is expressing the views of its author only and not necessarily those of the other contributors. With Diagrams and Selected Bibliog. 184pp. p/back. Probably ex-lib. Not a great copy, but Scarce. Fair only.
