Hardback. Reprint. (1st pub. 1924). The author has confined his remarks on crime committed in India to the major offences common in British India, endeavouring to illustrate their nature, frequency and special characteristics by actual cases, chosen from the annual official reports of crime during the period. As the book deals solely with crime at the time, all reference to the notorious criminal organisations of a vanished age, such as the Thags, has been omitted, and for the sake of simplicity the headings and contents of the first 3 chapters have been based on the classification followed in British India statistics and reports. The fourth chapter deals briefly with the history and features of prostitution in British India at the time, which, though cannot be properly described as a criminal offence, is nevertheless closely connected with crime and police work. In the fifth chapter the author has included a variety of miscellaneous matters which were more or less directly connected with crime in British India. The author considered it unnecessary to deal separately with political crime, but has, however, drawn pointed attention, wherever necessary, to the effect upon crime of the political agitation of the previous few years. Chapter headings include : Offences Against the State; Offences Against the Person; Offences Against Property; Prostitution in India; Miscellanea; Crime and Indian Aspirations. With Index. 140pp. 8vo. h/back. With a small pencilled marginalia note on 2 pages o/w Nr. F. in Vg+ dw.
