Softcover. 1st US p/b edn. This paperback edn. of the author's book gave him an opportunity to correct minor errors, to expand and update the bibliography, and to chronicle 'new' developments in the Lindbergh debate, including Mrs. Hauptmann's ongoing quest to clear her husband's name. When the author's hardback book came out in 1987, many people believed the man electrocuted for the 1932 murder of the Lindbergh baby was innocent. Of those who still considered Hauptmann guilty, only a handful thought he had committed the crime alone. At the time of Hauptmann's execution in 1936, a vast majority accepted his guilt in the face of what seemed to be overwhelming, albeit circumstantial evidence. Few would have guessed that 50yrs later a book confirming Hauptmann's guilt would be controversial. In the interim, revisionists had captured the Lindbergh case, and in the process had rewritten history to achieve their own political and ideological goals. The revisionists turned the Lindbergh case into a symbol of heavy-handed law enforcement and criminal injustice. Taking a position on Hauptmann's guilt or innocence has less to do with evaluating the evidence than with making a political statement. The author went against the revisionist tide and argues strongly for Hauptmann's guilt. Illus., Notes, Sources and Index. 480pp. trade size softcover. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. Nr. F. with no creasing to covers. A fairly heavy book which may require additional postage.
