Hardback. This book is an annotated bibliography of true crime narratives, a genre that can be defined as the telling of fact-based stories about crime. The range of crime is astonishingly broad, and therefore some limitation in subject matter was necessary. The time span covered is roughly from the middle of the 19th century through 1993 (including some books published in 1994). The main portion of the book is organised in the broad subject categories described in the table of contents. Each annotation includes the item number, author, title, date, publisher, and annotation. Most of the annotations are descriptive, although some attempt to evaluate the book as well. Section headings include : Murder - Early Crimes; Murder in the Modern Age; Crimes of Property; Crimes Against the Person; Detection/Apprehension; Criminal Justice; Punishment. With Author/Title Index, Subject Index, Case Name Glossary. 748pp. lge. 8vo. h/back. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. F. dw. not required. A fairly heavy book which will require additional postage. An excellent reference work.
