Softcover. The author, a retired Coroner for North Devon with over 30yrs in the post, tells the story of some of the most fascinating cases he dealt with over the years including suicide, murder, accidental death, euthanasia, death in police custody and treasure trove. One of his most celebrated cases was that of Polly and Derek Levon. In December 1996 the couple were making plans to visit their 2 daughters in Cyprus for Christmas. But 4 days before the holiday Derek telephoned his daughters to say they would have to cancel the trip as their mother had food poisoning. Polly was never seen again and 3 days after Christmas Derek put a loaded shotgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger. The local police immediately began an investigation and kept the Coroner's office closely informed of their progress. At the subsequent, inevitable inquest, the Coroner found that, despite the lack of a body, Polly had been unlawfully killed and Derek had committed suicide. In this book the author takes us through the facts of his chosen cases and demonstrates how he reached his verdicts. Illus. + Index. 128pp. trade size softcover. From the library of true crime writer Wilfred Gregg with his personal b/plate. F. with no creasing to covers.
