Softcover.Reprint.Featuring the 1743 murder of Allen Grebell, brother-in-law of James Lamb, Mayor of Rye. Allen Grebell had borrowed his brother-in-law's distinctive red cloak to attend his nephew's party. Later that night, on his short journey home via Saint Mary's churchyard, he was attacked by John Breeds, a butcher with a grievance against the Mayor. Although fuddled with alcohol, he waited to ambush James Lamb, and recognising the Mayor's red cloak, stabbed not James Lamb, but Allen Grebell. Not realising he had been stabbed, Allen Grebell made his way home, and subsequently bled to death. Illus. 16pp. booklet. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. Vg.
