Softcover. This is a book about crime, murder, mainly, but also other serious crimes. They may be regarded as old crimes, insofar as they were committed many years ago - most of them in the days when perpetrators were hanged. Capital punishment was the norm, killers could expect the noose, which is not to say justice was done; far from it, there are many cases enshrouded by doubt, murders denied and, in the author's view, not proven. Much research has been painstakingly carried out in assembling the facts. In addition to the main text, each chapter has a 'Point to Ponder' section, introducing the author's viewpoint, and inviting reader-analysis. The author was a policeman for over 30yrs, mostly as a detective, in the North East and South East of England. Illus. 128pp. trade size soft cover. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. F. with no creasing to covers.
