Softcover. The author tells the story of a career which, for over more than three decades, involved him with the investigation of major crimes in the county, including more than 50 murders. His absorbing but demanding role brought him into contact with key figures from Northamptonshire's judicial, legal and criminal fraternities. His duties ranged from the testing of drink-drivers in pre-Breathalyser days, and attendance at multiple accidents on the M1, to involvement with major incidents such as the Kingsthorpe Siege of 1977. His forensic expertise, particularly in the interpretation of injuries, proved vital on several occasions. He was often called upon in a consultancy capacity to assist other police forces. Perhaps his most celebrated case was that of Gordon Wardell, charged with the murder of his wife Carol, the manageress of a building society branch in Nuneaton. Wardell maintained he had been beaten up by his wife's killers, but medical evidence concluded that his injuries had in fact been self-inflicted. The jury returned a guilty verdict. Illus. + Index. 122pp. trade size softcover. One p. has a paperclip mk. o/w Nr. F. with no creasing to covers.
