Hardback. SIGNED. Limited numbered edition, 171/254. In this collection of stories, the author tells about the lives and the deaths of some territorial Wyoming's most notorious badmen. He has combed the archives, newspaper sources, and court records to compile these accounts of how law and order, at least occasionally, functioned in territorial Wyoming. As the stories reveal, some of the men who were executed might have been innocent. The frightening fact about capital punishment, then and now, is that the law is not infallible. Many were assuredly guilty or, as former federal judge T. Blake Kennedy once observed about his famous client, he might have been wrongfully convicred of murdering a young boy he didn't kill, but he certainly had killed others. Perhaps most interesting about these stories, laced with pathos, depravity, and unspeakable violence, is the fact that Wyomingites did not resort to mob violence in these cases. Whether it was for deterrence, retribution, or punishment, the executions described on these pages from the "wild west frontier" of territorial Wyoming were carried out only after the legal process was followed. Illus., Appendix + Index. 189pp. 12mo. h/back. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. F. in f. dw. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR.
