Hardback. SIGNED. The story of the events of June 17, 1933 in Kansas City, Missouri, when 3 men wielding machine guns (Adam Ritchetti, Vern Miller and Arthur "Pretty Boy" Floyd) made a murderous attempt to rescue Frank "Jelly" Nash, convicted murderer and prison escapee, from his FBI guards. It left Nash dead + 2 Kansas City law officials and an Oklahoma sheriff. In addition, 2 unarmed agents of the FBI lay on the ground, one mortally wounded, the other writhing in pain with 2 machine-gun bullets lodged at the base of his spine. Never before had Federal agents been so wantonly gunned down in the course of their duties. The murders focused public attention on the gangsterism and lawlessness that seemed to be taking over the country and set in motion the FBI's nationwide war on crime. Illus. 205pp. 8vo. h/back. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY FBI SPECIAL AGENT RAY SURAN (entered the FBI in 1930 and first Agent to retire from the FBI San Diego Division in 1955). Also INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY MONT SPEAR (I believe) and ROY PARKER, who I haven't been able to identify, but Spear and Parker are believed to have been G-Men as well (see image). Lightly foxed edges o/w Nr. F. in Vg. protected dw. which has 2 small notches to fr. cover.
