The scandal centering around a homosexual brothel in London's West End which created an enormous sensation in 1889 and 1890 since it involved some of the highest in the land, including Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence, elder son of the Prince of Wales, and Lord Arthur Somerset, son of the Duke of Beaufort. Warrants were issued for the arrest of the brothel-keeper and Lord Arthur Somerset amongst others. There followed 3 trials - the first for gross indecency with telegraph boys in the Post Office, the second for criminal libel, and a third for conspiracy to defeat the course of justice.
