Paperback. A collection of over 30 true stories, some downright blood-thirsty, all relating to famous murderers, pirates, burglars, housebreakers and highwaymen who terrorised the citizens of England between 1700 to 1836, and who were convicted and in most cases condemned to death. Some of the stories are old favourites. For example, Richard Turpin, who was executed in York in 1739 for highway robbery, and then there was Earl Ferrers of Leicester, who was executed at Tyburn in 1760 for murdering his manager...or the infamous Captain John Kidd who was executed at Execution Dock, London, in 1701 for piracy on the high seas. All well known names possibly, but their story, leading to their demise, still makes fascinating reading. Cover illus. by Jenny Walters. 167pp. p/back. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. F. with no creasing to cover.
