Softcover. The Rattenbury-Stoner case - a sensational case in which an elderly husband, Francis Rattenbury, a 67yr. old distinguished architect, was murdered after his wife, Alma, had taken a young lover, 18yr. old George Stoner. Late on the night of March 24, 1935, Alma found her husband in their Bournemouth home, with a fractured skull. He died later that night in hospital. Stoner confessed to killing Rattenbury, and both he and Alma were arrested. The lovers were loyal to each other - Alma declined to withdraw her confession, and Stoner denied that she had influenced his behaviour. They were both tried for murder in May 1935 at the Old Bailey, both pleading not guilty. Stoner was found guilty and sentenced to death. Alma was acquitted. Three days later, she committed suicide. Stoner's sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. Illus., Notes, Bibliog. and Index. From the library of true-crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. Vg+
