Featuring the life and death of the notorious poisoner Dr. William Palmer who was probably responsible for the deaths of possibly 14 people, whose trial in 1856 made legal history. A great wave of hostility arose against him, and the 'Palmer Act' was passed by Parliament making it possible for an accused person to be tried in London if he was unlikely to get a fair trial in his own county. He was also the first poisoner recorded to have used strychnine, which gave the case a special position in Criminal History. Illus., Chronology and Epilogue. 192pp. 12mo. h/back.
