Hardback. 'The true story of a man who went from prison to pulpit: namely J. Jerry Cacopardo formerly of Sing Sing now Pastor of the New First United Presbyterian Church in Jersey City.' In 1937 the author was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to a minimum of 30yrs imprisonment and a maximum of life. While he was waiting for the jury's verdict he prayed to God, "If you show me a miracle, I will give the rest of my life to you". The sentence of imprisonment rather than the electric chair did seem to him a miracle, and he kept his promise. Twenty-four years later he tells how he came to be convicted of a murder of which he was not guilty, how he spent his 16yrs imprisonment, and how, when he was unexpectedly released, he dedicated his life to God. Features the uncovering of the Arsenic Murder Ring, whose activities had led to an unbelievable number of crimes. In the course of the investigations a large number of corpses were dug up, and most of them were found to have traces of arsenic. Paul and Herman Petrillo were sentenced to the electric chair, and their two chief accomplices both received heavy prison sentences. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. 220pp. 8vo. h/back. Nr. F. in Vg+ dw.
