Hardback. The life and adventures of Ruby Sparks, who spent most of his adult life in prison and had as active, eventful and hilarious a life in crime as any man. He was brought up in Camberwell by parents who were receivers of stolen goods. His uncle Frank was a burglar, and the three of them instructed him at an early age in the proper behaviour of professional criminals. While still a boy he burgled a Maharajah's flat in Park Lane and stole 40,000 worth of rubies; thinking them imitations, he gave them all away, thus acquiring his nickname. Later he teamed up with Lily, the Bobbed-haired Bandit, who gave him the idea of smash and grab raids on jewellers' windows with a brick and a car. At time of publication, through the insistence of his wife Annie - he became an honest man, and turned an honest hand to recalling the heydays of life as Burglar to the Nobility and Gentry of London. Illus. 176pp. 8vo. h/back. With previous owner's neat name/date insc. together with small embossed stamp to ffep o/w Nr. F. A lovely copy of an extremely scarce and much sought after title.
