Hardback, 1st US edn. In January, 1897, a girl named Zonie Heaster Shue was discovered dead in her home near Greenbrier, West Virginia, apparently of natural causes. Some weeks after her burial, her ghost appeared at the bedside of her mother and informed her that she had been murdered. The body was exhumed, the case reopened, and ultimately her husband, Trout Shue, a blacksmith, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. Nowadays a highway historical marker near Greenbrier calls attention to the "Greenbrier Ghost", the "only known case in which testimony from (a) ghost helped convict a murderer." The author set out to discover what actually happened in this often-chronicled murder case of 120yrs. ago. With Appendices and Map. 191pp. 8vo. h/back. F. in Nr. F. dw.
