Hardback. The editor presents a fascinating gallery of mostly candid photographs of the human side of the people who have committed some of the most notorious crimes in history. There's a picture of Al Capone and his son at a baseball game talking with Gabby Hartnett; one of St. Valentine's Day murderer Jack McGurn with his wife on his arm instead of a machine-gun; Charles "Pretty Boy" Floyd and family; "Lucky" Luciano at a party with friends. But there are also pictures of Dutch Schultz slumped over a table lying in a pool of his own blood; of "Bugsy" Siegel smeared all over his mistress's couch; of Bobby Kennedy clutching a rosary minutes after he had been shot by Sirhan Sirhan. Most of the pictures had never appeared in a book before. The editor hasn't tried to answer any questions about crime, but rather he's presented it as it should be with a short text explaining the various crimes and cast of characters and enough pictures to let you see the criminals as people rather than symbols. He has had access to the the complete photographic archives of United Press International, and has chosen the most interesting pictures from this voluminous inventory. There are over 75 crimes and topics covered by some 400 photographs. Profusely Illus. + Index. 255pp. 4to. h/back. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. Vg+ in Vg. pcdw. A fairly heavy book which will require additional postage.
