Hardback. When Mark Chapman shot John Lennon in December 1980, it genuinely shocked the world. No other tragically premature rock and roll death had seemed quite so dreadful, partly because of the violent manner of the death and partly because it symbolised the lost dreams and hope of a generation, for whom the Beatles personified optimism and youth. Amidst this confused grief little attention was focused on the murderer. Mark Chapman was charged, indicted, imprisoned and largely forgotten. In fact, given the gravity of his crime and the significance of his victim, his low profile was quite remarkable. The author was one person who was intrigued. He began researching the circumstances of Lennon's murder and came to see that it was little less than a political assassination. In fact, the author maintains Lennon's death had been plotted and planned by the CIA for years and Mark Chapman had been programmed to fire the shots by undercover forces which controlled him. He was simply a cipher for the CIA who imagined that Lennon was a representative of dangerous political subversion. Outrageous though these claims might at first seem, the author argues them with chilling cogency. After this book there will always be reasonable doubt. With Bibliog. and Index. 309pp. lge. 8vo. h/back. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. Vg+ in Vg. sunned dw. which has a green and red, tiny 'spot' sticker to sp. A fairly heavy book which may require additional postage.
