Hardback. About the year 1880, groups of lawless bands which had as their purpose the regulation of the manners and morals of the residents of the area, sprang up in the southern part of the State of Indiana. During the next 10 or 15 years these White Cap bands, as they were called, spread not only throughout the rest of Indiana but to neighbouring states as well - especially to Ohio, Illinois, and Iowa. Eventually the movement appeared even farther west, and in the early 1890's there were serious white Cap disturbances in the Territory of New Mexico and California. The Lake County White Cap episode is an important event in California history. The raid itself is an example of latter-day vigilantism, but there are other aspects of the incident which make it important historically. With Notes + Index. 132pp. 4to h/back. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. Uncut edges o/w F.
