Softcover. A collection of authentic local stories containing all the ingredients for an absorbing delve into 10 mysteries linked by their close association with the County of Dorset. All these cases contain some form of human failing or an inexplicable physical occurrence; attach to this, theory, fallacy, legend and you have the unmistakable grey matter from which all good mysteries are distilled. The mysteries range far and wide over the County, from the haunted eves of a Beaminster school to the Wimborne graveside of a man (Montague John Druitt) shortlisted by the Metropolitan Police as the Whitechapel 'Ripper'. There are later mysteries as well, including the 1981 'haunting' of an ordinary, not to say, mundane looking, suburban house in a Bournemouth side-street. A number of respectable witnesses to the 'disturbances', including a Police constable, expressed utter disbelief at what they actually saw happening in front of their eyes. This volume closes with a detailed account of the investigations so far, into the 1986 murder of a young Bournemouth girl. Sandra Court's apparently motiveless murder has yet to be linked with any other, nor has a mysterious 'informant' come forward. Illus., Sources and Index. 160pp. trade size p/back. From the library of true-crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. V. lightly browned edges o/w Nr. F. with no creasing to covers.
