Hardback. There's no body, there's no witness, but a young woman is missing and her fiance is "too good to be true." On Monday November 11, 1985, vivacious Denise Redlick waved goodbye to her cousin Lori and crossed the parking lot to her waiting 1978 Triumph. From that moment, she seemingly disappeared from the face of the earth. On Monday, May 5, 1986, her charming and wealthy ex-fiance Craig Anderson, once admiringly described by Denise's own grandmother as "too good to be true", was brought to trial for the kidnapping and murder of the young, blonde, former cheerleader. The trial was unprecedented for the affluent California area. As Anderson's defence attorney would stress again and again, "There's absolutely no proof in this case that Denise Redlick is dead." Indeed, Anderson stood accused by a Prosecutor who could produce no body, no eyewitnesses and no evidence of death. For 2 weeks a parade of witnesses for the Prosecution slowly pieced together a web of circumstantial evidence, culminating in the revelation that Type A blood stains, the same blood type as Denise's had been discovered in a van rented by Anderson. Witnesses would testify to Anderson's vainly trying to scrub the inside of the van. Friends and relatives would testify to Denise's loyalty to her family, to fleeting glimpses of Anderson's mecurial temper, and the slow disintegration of Denise's relationship with Anderson before her disappearance. It took the jury only 4 hours to make their decision. Over a year later, on August 12, 1987, a grim discovery in a deserted Santa Clara gully would confirm that Denise Redlick had been murdered. Illus. 360pp. 8vo. h/back. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. V. lightly browned pp. o/w Nr. F. in Nr. F. dw.
